Sabbaticals for Women

If I had unlimited resources, I would create a retreat for women to get away from their lives and relax. Actually relax, not just do the same work (cooking, cleaning, laundry) in a different location as typically happens on a family vacation. With unlimited resources this retreat could offer sabbaticals to deserving women to give them a chance to recharge their energy as well as space to think about what they want out of life.

The retreat would be in a location that has a restful atmosphere and provides opportunities for workshops for mental stimulation and growth. Some perfect spots would be Lilydale (http://www.lilydaleassembly.com/) or the Chautauqua Institute (http://www.ciweb.org/) both located in western New York state.

Women tend to put the needs of everyone and everything before their own and end up stressed and unhappy because they are just plain worn out. An annual retreat would give them time to just “be” with no demands made on them.

A week of sleeping in, having someone else plan and prepare meals, no housework, no laundry, opportunities to exercise without distraction or attend classes on topics of interest, interact with other women with similar experiences and situations would be just what women need to recharge.

Where can I sign up?

About karenft

I am 56, divorced mother of three, librarian by profession. I am an avid reader and chocoholic, like photography, writing, gardening, board games, cooking and walking. I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities--bicycling, hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking--but never seem to have the time for participating these days. Soon, I hope.
